Автор исследует радикализацию заключенных в зарубежных тюрьмах как процесс (или процессы), в результате которого отдельные лица или группы начинают одобрять и (в конечном итоге) участвовать в использовании насилия в идеологических, политических или религиозных целях. Анализируются внешние и внутренние факторы, способствующие радикализации заключенных. Рассматриваются эффективные зарубежные программы коллективной и индивидуальной де-радикализации заключенных, направленные на сокращение числа активных террористов в данном обществе путем оказания помощи отдельным заключенным-террористам или группам заключенных-террористов и облегчения их реинтеграции в основное общество. Автор приходит к выводу о необходимости создания долгосрочных стратегий для обеспечения постоянного решения проблем, создаваемых экстремизмом и исламизмом в тюрьмах

The author examine the radicalization of prisoners in foreign prisons as a process (or processes) through which individuals or groups come to endorse and (ultimately) participate in the use of violence for ideological, political, or religious purposes. They analyze the external and internal factors that contribute to prisoner radicalization. They examine effective international collective and individual prisoner deradicalization programs aimed at reducing the number of active terrorists in a given society by assisting individual terrorist prisoners or groups of terrorist prisoners and facilitating their reintegration into mainstream society. The author conclude that long-term strategies are needed to ensure permanent solutions to the problems posed by extremism and islamism in prisons
