<p>The article proposes to consider the evolution of improvisation in Western Euro pean and North American choreography of the second half of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centu ries through the prism of an epistemological turn. Starting from the methodology of “practice asresearch” (Practice asResearch), the author proves that improvisation hasmade a fundamental tran sition from a means of artistic expressiveness to an autonomous form of production of specific, non-verbal knowledge. On the material of keychoreographic methods - from experiments of post modern dance of the 1960s to technological systems of William Forsyth and hybrid performances - it can be traced howbodily spontaneity wasmethodized, turning the dance process into a way of generating knowledge about body, time, space, collectivity and interaction with inhuman actors. It is concluded that an autonomous research paradigm is formed in the field of modern dance, where improvisational practices are not a tool for creating a show, but a full-fledged laboratory process that expands the understanding of the capabilities of the human body and consciousness</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>практика как исследование</kwd><kwd>эпистемология танца</kwd><kwd>импровизацион ныетехнологии</kwd><kwd>телесное знание</kwd><kwd>постмодерн-танец</kwd><kwd>Уильям Форсайт</kwd><kwd>невербальное знание</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>practice asresearch</kwd><kwd>epistemology of dance</kwd><kwd>improvisational technologies</kwd><kwd>bodily knowledge</kwd><kwd>contemporary dance</kwd><kwd>postmodern dance</kwd><kwd>William Forsyth</kwd><kwd>non-verbal knowledge</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Schatzki, T.
