<p>The article presents a study of the phenomenon of prison isolation as an anthro pological catalyst - conditions in which the basic properties of human nature are exposed, hypertro phied and crystallized into a special type of personality, designated ashomo incarceratus. Drawing on Irving Hoffmann’s concepts of total institutions, Gresham Sykes’ analysis of deprivation, Lisa Gunther’s phenomenology of social death, and contemporary studies of penitentiary stress, the author considers howsociality, hierarchicity, aggression, creativity, and spirituality are transformed in incarceration. It is shown that the prison acts notjust as a place of imprisonment, but as an existential laboratory in which human nature is tested to the limit of what is possible, giving rise to both patho logical deformations and, in rare cases, opportunities for genuine transformation</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>антропологический катализатор</kwd><kwd>тюремная субкультура</kwd><kwd>тотальный институт</kwd><kwd>депривация</kwd><kwd>пенитенциарный стресс</kwd><kwd>иерархия</kwd><kwd>дегума низация</kwd><kwd>социальная смерть</kwd><kwd>идентичность</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>homo incarceratus</kwd><kwd>anthropological catalyst</kwd><kwd>prison subculture</kwd><kwd>total institution</kwd><kwd>deprivation</kwd><kwd>prison stress</kwd><kwd>hierarchy</kwd><kwd>dehumanization</kwd><kwd>social death</kwd><kwd>identity</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Пономарев, Д.
