<p>This article attempts to conceptually distinguish between the concepts of “author itarianism” and “authority” in pedagogical discourse. It is argued that confusing these categories leads to a simplification of ideas about the nature of pedagogical authority and an unjustified disman tling of the constructive foundations of teacher influence. Leadership theories developed in social psychology are proposed as a methodological tool for demarcation. The applicability of J. French and B. Raven’s concepts of power and influence, B. Bass’s transformational leadership, and K. Lewin’s classical typologies of leadership styles to the analysis of pedagogical interactions is analyzed. A paradox is revealed, according to which the rejection of authoritarian instruments of coercion in creases the real, rather than imaginary, controllability of the group. The results of the study make itpossible to return the concept of “pedagogical authority” to active scientific circulation, freeing it from authoritarian connotations and understanding it in terms of leadership</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>педагогический авторитет</kwd><kwd>авторитарность</kwd><kwd>авторитетность</kwd><kwd>власть</kwd><kwd>влияние</kwd><kwd>лидерство</kwd><kwd>лидерство в образовании</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>pedagogical authority</kwd><kwd>authoritarianism</kwd><kwd>authority</kwd><kwd>power</kwd><kwd>influence</kwd><kwd>leadership</kwd><kwd>leadership in education</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Макаренко А.С.
